Hi everyone Janis well done for finding a pram.I unfortunately I havnt been so lucky and am still after a 40" pram if anyone knows of one I should be eager to hear.p.s i live on the surrey/sussex border if that helps

Thank you.  I hope you are successful in finding a pram but don't despair about delivery and distance.  If the seller can wrap it well in cardboard and bubble wrap you can have it collected and delivered to you for less than £30 with Paisley Freight.  Mine came over 500 miles and I had to push it up a hill in deep snow still all wrapped up.  Those big wheels cut through snow like butter!

Sandra if anyone is interested I do have a Marmet catalogue with the Queen etc in and also the price lists I can give some info on this.   I think its 1963

Hugs Shirley xx

I made a mistake my catalogue is 1968 not 1963,

It has the Marmet Queen in it RRP is £44.0s0d with the foot extension £5.0s0d extra.  Rubberised Hair Mattress was  £1.14s.2d. and the pram bag was £2.11s.8d.    Wish I could buy one now for that price lol.   Thanks for the Coniston pointer in preloved Brown, not really after one as I already have it but would like a 24" wheel one or a chassis to put my body on.

Very  good  news  for  you then  Janis.   Yes   as  long as the prams are    really well  wrapped   they    tend  to  survive  unscathed,  but  they  did  well  to get it  to you in  all this  snow  didn't they?

I  see that  you are  looking  for  a  pram  with  even  bigger  wheels  now!   I   wish  I had  put  money  on that happening,  I  could be on my  way to the bank  right  now!

You ask about Royales,    they  are  lovely   prams  and very  elegant  indeed.   The large ones on  C  chassis  tend  to have  24 inch  wheels,  I   don't  think I have  seen   any on  smaller  wheels  unless  you are  talking of  the  other  models    either   detachable  bodies,  or  much smaller  models.  the only   thing  I  don't like  about   Royale  prams are the  hood arms  which  tend  to  be   really heavy   clumpy  looking  aluminium    ones,  although  in  a  catalogue that I have  here    there   are  a  couple of prams  which    have   chrome  arms,  so   that  isn't  always  necessarily  so.  That  wouldn't  stop  me  buying one  though,  I'd  just  look  out  for  another  set of hood arms   in chrome  from  another  manufacturer  which  would  fit.   The  bodies  are   aluminium  too  by  the way.    Apart  from that  I know  very little  about them myself,   I  can tell you that  they were  based in Nunhead Grove, Peckham in London  and   I have    one  catalogue  that  has  been  photocopied  for  me  but  apart  from  that  I know  very  little  about  them.

Thanks  very much for that  info  Shirley.     My  Wilson Egremont  was bought in   1969   and  cost  £38  something or  other.   My Mum  bought it  for  me  for  my first    child,   so the Queen  was   quite  a bit  more   expensive  than   the  top  end of  the SX  prams  at  that  time  then .

looks like it Sandra, my Coniston is 2" shorter than the Queen and the price of that was £39 and £41 if you wanted the 24 rather than 22" wheels, that one could also have the extension for £5.

Thanks again Sandra.  Yes Pailsey Freight did very well, only took 2 days. That's interesting about the Royales because there was one on eBay recently which had been in an attic covered up for 50 years.  It looked massive and didn't sell.  Must have been too pricey, maybe it will be relisted at a lower price.

I accidentally posted my reply to janis but it went something like i wasnt cross exactly and wasnt having a go at the people who got the prams to put reborns in just that with limited funds i just dont seem to be able to get the pram i would like anywhere be it ebay or preloved as each time i have been beated to it.you can see after the feedback has been left roughly who got it by what they have bought before and on several occasions there has been feedback from someone who it shows has been buying and selling prams.nothing wrong with that everyone should do what they want but it gets so frustrating when you are on a budget and have to add the cost of a courier which could easily double the actual final price putting it out of reach.sorry if i have offended anyone.

hi i totally agree with you.  Ebay seems to be so expensive for things especially prams and also you think it is going to be a bargain and then in the last seconds the bid has just doubled!  i bid on a pram once and was highest bidder and then in the last seconds it went from 130.00 to 170.00! i was gutted, but i was at my highest price could afford.  i too agree with you that these prams often go to people who just buy and sell for a profit - if like me i just enjoy buying these wonderful prams to restore and keep.  i would love to own a Mulliner, Deauville, Egremont and either a Chantilly, Picasso or Antibes - but these are few and far between and probably way outside my budget.  i have just bought a S. Burley and a Churchill for reasonable prices so i think these are people who had just bought to do up and then decided against and just sold them for what they paid without making profit so good on them.  thats the end of my rant!!

Unfortunately    Ebay prices  just reflect the prices  that  people are  willing  to  pay  for    any  item  (if  sold in an   auction certainly)  and  it  is   just  the laws  of  supply   and demand  in  that  respect  which  will  determine   what  price  a pram  with   fetch in   an Ebay auction.    I hav e been  outbid on prams  on there  time  without  number      but  I have   also  won  some  prams  too.  Although it  has  to be  said  that  not  all  of my prams  came   from Ebay   by  a long stretch.       Not  all of the  people  buying  prams on Ebay  are  buying to sell as   dealers  either,  there  are  very  few dealers  who  I know  of  altogether,  so please   don't   run  away  with  that idea..  Of  course  this   might  happen   although  the people  who I know   who    buy  and  sell     don't  tend  to  buy prams on  Ebay, they advertise privately  and   get  their prams  that  way.,   they normally  sell on  Ebay  though, it has  to be said.

Are you  wanting  to use  your prams  for   your own   babies  Angell  or  are  you  collecting?

Just got london baby coach.Body is green hood and apron blue.It is a harrods limited edition.Having trouble dating it.Can anyone help?

Helen,

I have had two versions of the LBC Crescent prams. A deeper, 1963 Crescent A model, which  was bought in Harrods and a 1973 Treasure Cot Crescent B, which I recently sold on a well known auction site.

Both these prams are navy with navy hood and aprons but both had developed a deep green tinge on their wooden bodies. The green was noticeable and when compared to the chassis, which remained the original navy golour, was quite pronounced.

Pat Holgate is renovating the Crescent A model for me and she remarked on this colour change to me and we decided to take the pram back to the original navy colour.  The body is being coach painted to match the original chassis's navy blue. It was so noticeable on the Crescent B Model that I had the body re-sprayed and the tramlines professionally re-painted by a sign writer.

I thought it was interesting that you too had a pram with this unusual colour combination. I think perhaps your pram is the same as the two I own/owned. The navy body has taken on the green colouration with age and exposure to the atmosphere.

I know that this is what happened with the Crescent B, as when it was purchased it the body was a deep navy but when I got it out to start restoration work on it, (about 6 months after buying it)  a significant colour change had occurred.

Hope this helps, perhaps it would help if you check the chassis colour. That's a pretty good indication of the original colour.  Sian

To anyone who read my earlier posting on the greenish tinge on the body of LBC prams.

Pat Holgate was discussing this with her spray painter and he says it is discolouration of the VARNISH used on the prams.  The bodywork was varnished as a routine to protect the paint finish and after many years it goes yellow.  Any colour underneath can only be seen through the varnish and thus blue appears green and white appears cream, etc.

Of course, that also explains why the chassis remains a true colour.  They were never varnished and so never have to be viewed throught the old, yellowed varnish.

That's the beauty of these forums, someone, somewhere in the prammy world has the answer to our questions and is willing to share their knowledge.

Sian

Yes   Sian   you see it  a  lot on    grey  prams  too  don't you?    The      lacquer   goes    a  yellowy   colour and the pram  body begins to   look   a   bit of  a  nasty  green.   Grey Osnaths    seem  to  be particularly   prone  to  this  for some reason.  My  Marmet  Queen   had  a  white  body and   chassis  when it  was  bought originally  but   the   colour of  the    body  had  changed  to a lovely cream  when I   bought it  and  it  was perfect,  the only  thing  I   could  do  was  to  change the  chassis  to  cream  to match  the  body.   It looks   beautiful   now  I must  say.

I have just put my original copy of 'Prams, mailcarts and bassinets' by Jack Hampshire on to Preloved. I am asking £225 + £10 recorded delivery p+p. This price is less than what I paid for it three years ago!

I am only selling it because I want to restore a coachbuilt pram and we all know just how much that costs!  Judith.

Hi there, does anyone know where or how I could get hold of a Marmet Lady or Marmet Queen? Or basically anything like that which has a deep boat shape body with a lovelly swan neck handle, nice big wheels and on a chassis with leather strap suspension? At a low price? (if possible!) Many thanx
