When i come to do the lining of my fethalite i know that even if it give it a go i wont be able to copy the way the head and foot ends also the padded sides have the ridges with the rope inside(bit of a clumsy way to describe but hope you all know what i mean?)how imporrtant is it to keep the pram as authentic as possible or would it really matter if i dont do that bit and pad and line without the ridges?my little silver cross doesnt have them and i,m going to find it hard enough to do without fiddling with something i will make a pigs ear out of.

added to the above question i am keeping with the original colour of olive green hood and apron so what colour could the body be to go with that?its a sort of white atm but i feel like changing it slightly but dont know what would go with olive green to make it look nicer than the white.has anyone got any ideas?also when i go to get my paint for the chassis is it the metal paint in the small tins that i need?and should the chassis be the same colour as the body or the same colour as the hood and apron?Final question do i have to strip the pram of the white or can i use that as the base colour once i have filled any damage and will car metal spray paint also do for a wooden body?

Pam, I would take your pram body with you when you go to choose the paint, that way you can get some advice on what to use best on it. With a two tone pram the colours are rarely equal, so your pram body must be mainly cream/white or mainly green. Normally the chassis colour would match the main colour on the body that seems to have been the way, in the main, but I have seen exceptions. You could also do it one single colour too if you would like to of course. Sometimes they look absolutely so different in a single colour. So a re you taking the lining out of your pram then and re-lining it? I thought it was in good condition and didn't need re-lining Pam? It is a navy lining isn't it? Do you absolutely want to keep the green, if not you could go for off white/cream navy or cream/burgundy colour? That always looks nice. And a navy lining would go with either.

Hello Sandra, thanks for the advice re the painting.:) The body is a sort of off white with an olive green risen stripe.the lining which is dark green wasnt in good condition in the end in fact when i peeled it all off taking all the tacks and the white pins out, the back of the lining wasnt nice at all so am stripping it all out.cant put my precious little grandsons in it like it is:roll: went to the upholsterers yesterday and was able to buy the same as came out enough to do the pram and more for the princely sum of £6.25!i already have the vinyl in the same green as before from ebay not as thick as the original which worries me a little but should be fine if i do it properly.but even to go and buy thicker would be only a tenner.so in fact the upholstering of the inside is the cheapest bit of all the renovation.breathes a sigh of relief. I did want to completely change the colour of the pram but Marie is doing the hood and apron using the original lining of the hood which is dark green so have to stick with that colourway. did want to do the inside cream but then i would have to repaint the body oh decided not to do it after all and said i could get someone to respray for me so more expense i couldnt afford. i just dont have the money to change everything now.i can always brighten it up with white straps and some lovely bedding.I think i will do the chassis in the same colour as the body as per usual. regarding the padded top side of the bed though would it matter if i didnt do the ridges and just stretched the vinyl plainly over the padding as on the side of my lttle silver cross?i may have an attempt at the ridged top and tail bits with the help of a neighbour but as for the top sides i will probably not as i will do more damage than good!!my sewing skills are not the best or anywhere near.

Oh great price then Pam, well done on getting the correct 'padding' for the interior, I do think it is better than the polyester type wadding that we can get today. No it wouldn't matter if you didn't put piping into your pram head and footboards, but it won't look quite as good. But if you don't mind that then there is no reason why you shouldn't do it plain at all Pam. I think you would need to put them onto the top rails though to be honest, or at least, I can not imagine how it would work without piping along those edges. I would imagine that it helps to give quite a lot of structure and support to the edges really, I would think. However, if you try it and it works ok then that is your business isn't it? It is not up to anyone else how you line your pram Pam, so if you are happy with it, then do it. S x

thanks for your reply Sandra.:)i know what you mean about the structure of the top edge.i honestly cant remember when i had my silver cross for my first baby if the edges were plain or ridged but the smaller silver cross i just sold was plain edged and seemed very sturdy in that area.so i will try it and see what happens...unless you know anyone in the south who could help me out?
