Hi :)

I am new to the forum as I have just become the proud owner of my first Silver Cross vintage pram.

I bought this from someone local to me who has had it from new.  It's in lovely condition and I bought it to use with my 16 month old and my baby due in 2 weeks.

I am hoping to get some help identifying the pram.  I have no idea where to start!

 It's approximately 30 yrs old and is in a brown leather effect material. It measures 36inches at it's longest point and both the carrycot and the chassis can be collapsed.

I need a toddler seat and new mattress for it and a tray for under the chassis.  I cant see any brown toddler seats.....

I have added a few pictures I have just taken.  Please excuse the state of my kitchen!

Any help is very much appreciated.

Well  your  pram    does  look in  excellent   condition  doesn't  it Sid's Mum.   It  sounds  as  though  you are     going  to have  great  fun   pushing  your  two  babies  around in it.     I  haven't    seen  a  brown   pram seat  either  that  I  can remember,  they are mostly  navy,    the  only  thing  I  can  suggest is  that  you  make  some  sort of a  cover  for it  maybe  but  that  wouldn't  be  easy   when you   think  that  it  would  have  to be  a  waterproof  cover  really.     Keep looking, you never know  one  may turn up.

These  vinyl  bodied  prams were   becoming  all the rage when I   had  my  first  baby  in   1969,   Everyone   from Mothercare  to  Boots  and  the   big  pram manufacturers   too     were  beginning  to   make more of  this   type of  pram  than the  more  traditional  coach built   or had  bodied prams.   They  did  save  a lot  of  space  when  being  stored  and   could  go into  a  car  pretty  easily  too.     I have   had  a look in  my catalogues  but  this model isn't  in  them - my  latest  catalogue  is only   1977  There  are  only  three  models of    a  soft  bodied  pram in   that one  and  one more in the  1969  catalogue   and  I  have  nothing  between  the   two or   later   either.    I am sure that someone  will come  along  who may be  able to  find  your  pram   in one of  their  catalogues    and   I will  ask   around my  friends  too  to see if  they can help.

I  forgot  to  say  that  I  have   bought a  few  mattresses  now  from

http://www.babymattressesonline.co.uk ;

and  I  have  been  very  very pleased  with them  and  the  price   was   great  too  plus  they  arrived   very   quickly.   I  would  recommend  them  to  anyone.

Your pram is very smart Sid's Mum both your children will thank you for having a nice pram to nap in... my boys used to take their naps in the daytime in a pram of the same size right up until they were 2 or 3 yrs old. So get that mattress and let Sid use it before the new baby arrives! If you can't get a  brown pram seat and like Sandra I've never seen a brown one, then perhaps you could buy some brown vinyl fabric and recover  a navy one although to be honest you can't see much of the seat once a toddler is sat on it. You used to be able to get waterproof  cape things designed to keep your toddler dry whilst sat on in an open pushchair or on the toddler seat dont' know if they are still available ... Perhaps someone else will know. Good luck with the new baby. Enjoy your pram and your babies.. looked after the pram will still be good for your grandchildren!

Thank you Sandra.  I have now looked at the photos and I hope Pammie comes back to view them too. I remember these vinyl prams around the time of my son's birth in 1971, but unfortunately do not know the exact model name.  But it certainly looks in very good condition and I hope you enjoy walking your babies in it Sid's mum

Hello Sid's Mum

Your pram is a Standard Esquire and is in the 1974 catalogue.  It was available in Navy, Turquoise, Honey Mist or..........I'm afraid to say the colour of yours............Trout Brown!  Quite why they chose that name I'll never know!  Are trout brown?  Anyway, there you are, mystery solved!
