New Covering for Pram Handles
£2.75
I am afraid that I can no longer absorb the cost of carriage on handle covering, I have just returned from the Post Office where I have had to pay £2.10 for 1st class recorded delivery for one length of handle covering. To say I was 'gob-smacked' is an understatement! I have never had to pay that before. Because I can't fold it flat inside an envelope but have to roll it up, they have said it has to go as a package and so I have been charged accordingly! It only ways a few grammes, I can't get over it. I am really sorry but I will have to change my ways and charge for delivery in future.
Has your Pram Handle covering split or become discoloured? I have available shiny white or black, shrink fit covering for coachbuilt pram handles.
These coverings measure 3 3/4 inches or 9.6 cm around approximately, so your handle has to be able to slip into these flat sleeves before we start.
If your handle measures more than
3 3/4 inches around then I have been able to get some more wider handle covering, which should fit the thickest handles, price for this is £3.55 excluding carriage
If your handle is damaged, maybe with pieces of wood missing (one of mine was!) then fill the damaged or missing areas with wood filler and sand everything down smoothly because if it isn't nice and smooth, you won't get a good result!

The first thing is to remove all of the metal fittings on each end of your pram handle and then push the handle inside the flat white plastic sleeve and ensure that there is an equal amount of the covering at each end of the handle.
Take a hairdryer and set it to it's hottest setting. Beginning at the centre of the handle, play the hairdryer around the handle turning it around and around as you do so. Within a few seconds you will see the covering begin to shrink to fit the wooden handle snuggly.
Continue for a couple of minutes to ensure that the covering is shrunk to it's maximum level. Use a Stanley knife to trim off any covering hanging over at each end of the handle (don't cut it too short, try to leave a little sort of 'hanging over' the ends of the handle if possible) and then I have found that to make that edge nice and neat, play the hairdryer on the ends of the handle again, to make sure that all of the covering on the ends lies flat and neat. Now you can replace your metal fittings and you have a new handle. As you can see from the photographs above the name on my handle is Osnath and once the covering was shrunk to fit you can still see the Osnath name as it is pressed into the wood. It may be possible to then 'fill in' the name with ink or paint or whatever, sothat the name is clearly visible again as they are on these handles normally. I haven't tried this yet and I would urge caution because if it went wrong you may cause damage to your new shiny covering, so do be very careful if you want to try that.
